316 Stainless Steel Swing Gate Turnstile for Singapore Zoo Brushless Orange Coated Access Control

316 Stainless Steel Swing Gate Turnstile for Singapore Zoo Brushless Orange Coated Access Control

2026-09-11

Singapore's Zoo is one of the world's most renowned wildlife parks, welcoming millions of visitors every year in a hot, humid and coastal tropical climate. Managing pedestrian flow at its entrance plazas demands access gates that are simultaneously secure, durable, weather-resistant and visually in tune with the park's natural environment. To meet this challenge, the operator selected a set of 316 stainless steel swing gate turnstiles with brushless drive, a special orange powder coating and an anti-collision barrier design.

Project Background

The zoo needs to move large crowds quickly through multiple entrance lanes while preserving a safe, friendly experience for families with children and strollers. The site sits close to the sea, so salt-laden air and year-round high humidity place severe demands on metal housings. Conventional painted steel gates had shown early rust and frequent repainting, and their standard barrier arms offered little protection against accidental collisions from visitors pushing through in a hurry.

Requirements and Challenges

  • Corrosion resistance: constant humidity and airborne salt required 316 marine-grade stainless steel rather than ordinary 304 housings.
  • High traffic reliability: continuous, bi-directional flow during peak seasons needed a quiet, long-life brushless motor drive.
  • Safety and anti-collision: barrier arms must protect visitors and themselves, absorbing accidental impacts without injuring anyone or damaging the mechanism.
  • Aesthetic fit: the entrance hardware should harmonise with the zoo's tropical theme rather than look like industrial security equipment.

Our Solution

We supplied swing gate turnstiles built from 316 stainless steel. Unlike 304 stainless steel, 316 contains molybdenum, which sharply improves resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion — making it ideal for coastal and humid environments such as Singapore. Each cabinet received a special orange powder coating that is cured at high temperature to form a tough, colour-fast finish. The warm orange tone echoes the zoo's branding and adds an inviting, playful character to the entrance.

At the heart of each lane is a brushless DC motor. Compared with conventional brushed motors, the brushless drive runs cooler, quieter and with far less wear, delivering a longer service life and stable performance across millions of cycles. Combined with infrared anti-pinch sensing and the anti-collision barrier arms, the gates open and close smoothly while protecting pedestrians — if a visitor bumps into a closing arm, the barrier yields and resets safely instead of forcing through.

Key Configuration

Item Specification
Product Swing Gate Turnstile
Housing material 316 stainless steel (anti-corrosion)
Surface finish Special orange powder coating
Drive Brushless DC motor
Safety features Anti-collision arms, infrared anti-pinch
Application Zoo entrance, high-humidity coastal site
Durability Millions of operating cycles, low maintenance
Environment Indoor / outdoor, tropical humid climate

Results and Benefits

Since installation, the swing gate turnstiles have delivered reliable, round-the-clock operation at the zoo's entrance. The 316 stainless steel housings have resisted corrosion in the humid coastal air, dramatically cutting maintenance and repainting costs compared with the previous gates. Visitors pass through quickly and comfortably, and the anti-collision design has reduced minor incidents to a minimum. The distinctive orange finish has become a recognisable part of the entrance experience, proving that robust security hardware can also be attractive and on-brand.

  • Corrosion-free performance in a tropical, salt-air environment.
  • Quiet, smooth, low-maintenance brushless operation at high throughput.
  • Improved visitor safety through anti-collision and anti-pinch protection.
  • A welcoming, colourful entrance that matches the zoo's identity.

Conclusion

This Singapore Zoo project demonstrates how the right combination of material, drive technology and finish can solve a demanding real-world access challenge. For coastal, humid or high-traffic venues, 316 stainless steel swing gate turnstiles with brushless motors and custom coatings offer a durable, safe and attractive entrance solution.
